Chapter - 8



अष्टमोऽध्यायः
 ईश्वर उवाच
अन्यद् गुह्यतमं ज्ञानं वक्ष्ये ब्राह्मणपुंगवाः
येनासौ तरते जन्तुर्घोरं संसारसागरम् .१॥
Meaning: - O foremost Brahmins, I am going to narrate another confidential knowledge, by knowing which living beings crosses the sea of samasra.
 अहं ब्रह्ममयः शान्तः शाश्वतो निर्मलोऽव्ययः
 एकाकी भगवानुक्तः केवलः परमेश्वरः .२॥
Meaning: - Know me to alone be Personification of Brahman, calm, eternal, pure, Bhagawan (possessing six divine attributes), Non-dual Supreme Soul. 

 मम योनिर्महद् ब्रह्म तत्र गर्भं दधाम्यहम्
 मूल मायाभिधानं तं ततो जातमिदं जगत् .३॥
Meaning: - Mahad-Bramha (Mool- Prakriti) is to be known as womb of mine. I insert my seed (of creation from where Cosmic egg is created) therein which is the cause of entire creation.

 प्रधानं पुरुषो ह्यत्मा महान् भूतादिरेव
 तन्मात्राणि महाभूतानीन्द्रियाणि जज्ञिरे .४॥
Meaning: - Pradhana (lower order Prakriti) Purusha as individual souls, Tanmatras (sound, touch, form, fragrance etc) mind, gross five elements and senses      born out of the same.  

 ततोऽण्डमभवद्धैमं सूर्यकोटिसमप्रभम्
तस्मिन् जज्ञे महाब्रह्मा मच्छक्त्या चोपबृंहितः .५॥
Meaning: - Then after emerged the Cosmic Egg (Hiranyagarbha) possessing the radiant of infinite sun(s), within it my potency maha-bramha (higher order prakriti) manifested (as lower order Prakriti or Pradhaana Prakrtiti).

 ये चान्ये बहवो जीवा मन्मयाः सर्व एव ते
  मां पश्यन्ति पितरं मायया मम मोहिताः .६॥
Meaning: - All other living beings are my own form but fail to realise me as their Sire as they all are under my maya (illusion).  
यासु योनिषु सर्वासु संभवन्ति हि मूर्त्तयः
 तासां माया परा योनिर्मामेव पितरं विदुः .७॥
Meaning: - Know me to be sire of all the creatures born in different species (Yoni), and Para-Yoni (Mool-Prakriti) as their divine mother.    
(NOTE: - In Svetaswatara Upanishad too the same fact is mentioned.
“Know that prakriti is maya and Maheswara is the wielder/Lord of maya. The whole world here is pervaded by beings who are part of them i.e. Maheshwara and Prakriti” [Svet.Up. 4:10] )
 यो मामेवं विजानाति बीजिनं पितरं प्रभुम्
  धीरः सर्वलोकेषु मोहमधिगच्छति .८॥
Meaning: - The one who perceive me as seed imparting Sire, that enlightened one never gets bewildered by any attachments of the world(s).

 ईशानः सर्वविद्यानां भूतानां परमेश्वरः
 ओङ्कारमूर्तिर्भगवानहं ब्रह्मा प्रजापतिः .९॥
Meaning: - Know me to be the Isana (Ruler/King) of all the knowledge, Overlord of all beings, Personification of Pranava (Omkar) and Prajapati Lord Bramha.

 समं सर्वेषु भूतेषु तिष्ठन्तं परमेश्वरम्
विनश्यत्स्वविनश्यन्तं यः पश्यति पश्यति .१०॥
Meaning: - Anyone who perceives the Ultimate Consciousness residing equally in all living entities everywhere as imperishable within perishable; such a one actually perceives.  
(Note: - Here पश्यति means ‘to see’ is translated as ‘to perceive’ because to see the true self or to realize the ultimate directly mean to become aware of our true self. Hence when one understands soul as imperishable in perishable worlds knows the truth or can visualize the truth.)
समं पश्यन् हि सर्वत्र समवस्थितमीश्वरम्
हिनस्त्यात्मनात्मानं ततो याति परांगतिम् .११॥
Meaning: - Individual (Yogi) who sees the Lord in every living being and equal everywhere does not degrade himself by his mind. Thus, he attains the Ultimate Reality (get united with it).

 विदित्वा सप्त सूक्ष्माणि षडङ्गं महेश्वरम्
प्रधानविनियोगज्ञः परं ब्रह्माधिगच्छति .१२॥
Meaning: - By knowing the seven subtle elements and six potency of Maheshwara, by understanding the Pradhana and Viniyoga one attains the Brahaman.   

 सर्वज्ञता तृप्तिरनादिबोधः स्वतन्दता नित्यमलुप्तशक्तिः
अनन्तशक्तिश्च विभोर्विदित्वा षडाहुरङ्गानि महेश्वरस्य .१३॥
Meaning: - Know the six limbs (potency) of Maheshwara to be the Omniscience, Satiety, Eternal Knowledge, Freedom, undecaying sakti and Infinite Sakti.

 तन्मात्राणि मन आत्मा तानि सूक्ष्माण्याहुः सप्ततत्त्वात्मकानि
 या सा हेतुः प्रकृतिः सा प्रधानंबन्धः प्रोक्तो विनियोगोऽपि तेन .१४॥
Meaning: - The Five tanmaatraas (sound, touch, skin, fragrance etc) with mind and Soul are called as Seven Subtle elements. The Prakriti is the cause of all and hence called as ‘Pradhana’ and binding of (Pradhana) Prakriti is called as ‘Viniyoga.’

 या सा शक्तिः प्रकृतौ लीनरूपावेदेषूक्ता कारणं ब्रह्मयोनिः
 तस्या एकः परमेष्ठी पुरस्ता-न्महेश्वरः पुरुषः सत्यरूपः .१५॥
Meaning: - The Sakti which is always lodged in Prakriti is called ‘Bramh-Yoni’ in the Veda(s). Non-Dual, Foremost, Supreme Maheshwar is the Purusha (of Prakriti) in the form of truth.

ब्रहामा योगी परमात्मा महीयान् व्योमव्यापी वेदवेद्यः पुराणः
 एको रुद्रो मृत्युमव्यक्तमेकंबीजं विश्वं देव एकः एव .१६॥
Meaning: - That God is Non-Dual Brahman, Yogi, Supremesoul, Omnipresent, to be known by all the veda, Ancient Purusha, Non-Dual Rudra, death, unmanifested, One Seed and having universal form.

तमेवैकं प्राहुरन्येऽप्यनेकं त्वेकात्मानं केचिदन्यंतमाहुः
अणोरणीयान् महतो महीयान् महादेवः प्रोच्यते वेदविद्भिः .१७॥
Meaning: - That Lord is known as ‘One’ by many, while many calls him in many (ways). Other People call that lord only as Non-Dual Self. People well-versed in the Vedas call Mahadeva as subtle than atom and greater than greatest.

 एवम् हि यो वेद गुहाशयं परं प्रभुं पुराणं पुरुषं विश्वरूपम्
हिरण्मयं बुद्धिमतां परां गतिंसबुद्धिमान् बुद्धिमतीत्य तिष्ठति .१८॥
Meaning: - Situated in the heart of all, Foremost, Ancient Purusha, having universal form, possessing the golden lustre, and ultimate goal of enlightened one who is aware of this fact,  transcend the intelligence.

 इति श्रीकूर्मपुराणे षट्साहस्त्र्यां संहितायामुपरिविभागे (ईश्वरगीतासु) अष्टमोऽध्यायः ८॥
