षष्ठोऽध्यायः
ईश्वर उवाच ।
शृणुध्वमृषयः सर्वे यथावत् परमेष्ठिनः ।
वक्ष्यामीशस्य माहात्म्यं यत्तद्वेदविदो विदुः ॥ ६.१॥
Meaning:
Ishvara
Said: - Now I am going tonarrate you all, the glory of Parmeshthi Isha which is
known only to learned scholar of Veda(s), so listen it attentively, O sages!
सर्वलोकैकनिर्माता सर्वलोकैकरक्षिता ।
सर्वलोकैकसंहर्त्ता सर्वात्माऽहं सनातनः ॥ ६.२॥
Meaning: - I happen to be the Sole Creator, Sustainer/Protector and
Destroyer of the world, Soul of all and eternal.
सर्वेषामेव वस्तूनामन्तर्यामी महेश्वरः ।
मध्ये चान्तः स्थितं सर्वं नाहं सर्वत्र संस्थितः ॥ ६.३॥
Meaning:
- Know me to be the Maheshwara, innerself of all. Mean and end of entire
creation is contained inside me but know that I am not stationed in them.
भवद्भिरद्भुतं दृष्टं यत्स्वरूपं तु मामकम् ।
ममैषा ह्युपमा विप्रा मायया दर्शिता मया ॥ ६.४॥
Meaning:
- O Sages! Cosmic form of mine which you all witness is just my analogy (not
the complete form since none can comprehend Lord completely), which I displayed
before you by my Maya.
सर्वेषामेव भावानामन्तरा समवस्थितः ।
प्रेरयामि जगत् कृत्स्नं क्रियाशाक्तिरियं मम ॥ ६.५॥
Meaning:
- Know me to be situated in the innermost of all the feelings, and influence entire
creation (by pradhana). This should be known as Kriya-Shakti of mine.
ययेदं चेष्टते विश्वं तत्स्वभावानुवर्त्ति च ।
सोऽहं कालो जगत् कृत्स्नं प्रेरयामि कलात्मकम् ॥ ६.६॥
Meaning:
- By me – Kala, entire creation is applauding and follows my nature. It is only
by me entire creation is being influenced.
एकांशेन जगत् कृत्स्नं करोमि मुनिपुंगवाः ।
संहराम्येकरूपेण स्थिताऽवस्था ममैव तु ॥ ६.७॥
Meaning: - Know this, O foremost Sages, that this entire cosmic
creation is created by portion of mine and the same is destroyed by me in other form.
Such, characteristics are mine attributes.
आदिमध्यान्तनिर्मुक्तो मायातत्त्वप्रवर्त्तकः ।
क्षोभयामि च सर्गादौ प्रधानपुरुषावुभौ ॥ ६.८॥
ताभ्यां संजायते विश्वं संयुक्ताभ्यां परस्परम् ।
महदादिक्रमेणैव मम तेजो विजृम्भते ॥ ६.९॥
Meaning:
- Without beginning, midst and end know me to be the promoter of Maya. By union
of pradhana (prakriti) and purusha, irritable Mahat is born and in the
sequence, creation come into existence. All of them grows by my radiant only.
यो हि सर्वजगत्साक्षी कालचक्रप्रवर्त्तकः ।
हिरण्यगर्भो मार्त्तण्डः सोऽपि मद्देहसंभवः ॥ ६.१०॥
तस्मै दिव्यं स्वमैश्वर्यं ज्ञानयोगं सनातनम् ।
दत्तवानात्मजान् वेदान् कल्पादौ चतुरो द्विजाः ॥ ६.११॥
Meaning:
- The Sun-God (Martand) who is also known as Hiranya-Garbha, is
witnessing the world, due to him (Sun) wheel of time is moving, that Sun is emerged
from Me (Lord Shiva). For the very same reason, O Sages at the beginning of
every Kalpa, I bestow upon him the eternal Knowledge of four Vedas and Divine
Glories of mine.
स मन्नियोगतो देवो ब्रह्मा मद्भावभावितः ।
दिव्यं तन्मामकैश्वर्यं सर्वदा वहति स्वयम् ॥ ६.१२॥
Meaning:
- The Prajapati Bramha, on my desire, is aware of my eternal glory and Science.
स सर्वलोकनिर्माता मन्नियोगेन सर्ववित् ।
भूत्वा चतुर्मुखः सर्गं सृजत्येवात्मसंभवः ॥ ६.१३॥
Meaning:
- Due to my desire, four-faced Bramha has become knowledgeable, and on my
command only he creates the world(s) and by my influence only he is regarded as
‘Creator’ of the world.
योऽपि नारायणोऽनन्तो लोकानां प्रभवाव्ययः ।
ममैव परमा मूर्तिः करोति परिपालनम् ॥ ६.१४॥
Meaning:
- The endless Narayana, origin of world(s), is my best form and by my blessings
he sustains entire creation.
योऽन्तकः सर्वभूतानां रुद्रः कालात्मकः प्रभुः ।
मदाज्ञयाऽसौ सततं संहरिष्यति मे तनुः ॥ ६.१५॥
Meaning:
- Lord Rudra in the form of Kala (Kalagni-Rudra) annihilates the entire
creation, by bleesings of mine.
हव्यं वहति देवानां कव्यं कव्याशिनामपि ।
पाकं च कुरुते वह्निः सोऽपि मच्छक्तिनोदितः ॥ ६.१६॥
Meaning:
- Agni, which carries the sacrificial offerings to deities, ‘kavya’ to departed
ancestor, and cook the digestable food, is form of mine and influenced by me
only.
भुक्तमाहारजातं च पचते तदहर्निशम् ।
वैश्वानरोऽग्निर्भगवानीश्वरस्य नियोगतः ॥ ६.१७॥
Meaning:
- At my order only Vaisvanara (Agni) digests the food consumed by living beings
in dayor night.
योऽपि सर्वाम्भसां योनिर्वरुणो देवपुंगवः ।
सोऽपि संजीवयेत् कृत्स्नमीशस्यैव नियोगतः ॥ ६.१८॥
Meaning:
- That deity who is cause for presence of water, foremost deity Varuna is
capable to bestow life to all beings by my blessings only.
योऽन्तस्तिष्ठति भूतानां बहिर्देवः प्रभञ्जनः ।
मदाज्ञयाऽसौ भूतानां शरीराणि बिभर्ति हि ॥ ६.१९॥
Meaning:
- On my command alone, functions the प्रभञ्जन deity (wind) who circulates inside
and outside of all beings, who holds (support the survival) body of all beings.
योऽपि संजीवनो नॄणां देवानाममृताकरः ।
सोमः स मन्नियोगेन चोदितः किल वर्तते ॥ ६.२०॥
Meaning:
- The personification of nectar for deities and life-giving medicine for the
humans – that Soma deity, represent my glory only (by my desire).
यः स्वभासा जगत् कृत्स्नं प्रकाशयति सर्वदा ।
सूर्यो वृष्टिं वितनुते शास्त्रेणैव स्वयंभुवः ॥ ६.२१॥
Meaning: - That Surya who emits rays of light in worlds and carries
water (helps in bringing rain) in his rays also functions as per my wish of
eternal Lord (Shiva).
योऽप्यशेषजगच्छास्ता शक्रः सर्वामरेश्वरः ।
यज्वनां फलदो देवो वर्त्ततेऽसौ मदाज्ञया ॥ ६.२२॥
Meaning:
- Sakra, the king of all deities and dispenser of fruits of fire-sacrifice,
functions due to my instruction only.
यः प्रशास्ता ह्यसाधूनां वर्त्तते नियमादिह ।
यमो वैवस्वतो देवो देवदेवनियोगतः ॥ ६.२३॥
Meaning:
- The son of Surya, deity Yama, who rules over evil beings (by punishing them),
functions on order of God of all gods (Shiva).
योऽपि सर्वधनाध्यक्षो धनानां सम्प्रदायकः ।
सोऽपीश्वरनियोगेन कुबेरो वर्त्तते सदा ॥ ६.२४॥
Meaning:
- The kubera, owner of all richness, and the dispenser of the same, functions
on my will (blessings) oalone.
यः सर्वरक्षसां नाथस्तामसानां फलप्रदः ।
मन्नियोगादसौ देवो वर्त्तते निरृतिः सदा ॥ ६.२५॥
Meaning:
- God for Demons and dispenser of fruits to tamsic ones - Nirriti, functions as
per my instructions alone.
वेतालगणभूतानां स्वामी भोगफलप्रदः ।
ईशानः किल भक्तानां सोऽपि तिष्ठन्ममाज्ञया ॥ ६.२६॥
Meaning: - Lord of all ghost
and goblins – Ishana, who is confer happiness on his devotee also functions on
my instruction.
यो वामदेवोऽङ्गिरसः शिष्यो रुद्रगणाग्रणीः ।
रक्षको योगिनां नित्यं वर्त्ततेऽसौ मदाज्ञया ॥ ६.२७॥
Meaning:
- Best among the eleven rudras of Lord Maheshwara– that ‘Vamadeva’ who is
disciple of rshi Angira protect the yogins on my instruction.
यश्च सर्वजगत्पूज्यो वर्त्तते विघ्ननायक: ।
विनायको धर्मरतः सोऽपि मद्वचनात् किल ॥ ६.२८॥
Meaning:
- Vinayaka (Ganesha) who eliminates the obstacles being the leader of the same,
worships by all, abided by Dharma, is influenced by me.
योऽपि ब्रह्मविदां श्रेष्ठो देवसेनापतिः प्रभुः ।
स्कन्दोऽसौ वर्त्तते नित्यं स्वयंभूर्विधिचोदितः ॥ ६.२९॥
Meaning: - Self-born Skandha – the husband of Devsena, foremost among possessing
the knowledge of Brahman, is there by my blessings only.
ये च प्रजानां पतयो मरीच्याद्या महर्षयः ।
सृजन्ति विविधं लोकं परस्यैव नियोगतः ॥ ६.३०॥
Meaning:
- The Prajapati Marichi – Maharishi, by instruction of supreme lord creates the
worlds.
या च श्रीः सर्वभूतानां ददाति विपुलां श्रियम् ।
पत्नी नारायणस्यासौ वर्त्तते मदनुग्रहात् ॥ ६.३१॥
Meaning:
- The goddess of wealth and dispenser of the same, who is the consort of Narayana,
known as “Sri” also functions at my command alone.
वाचं ददाति विपुलां या च देवी सरस्वती ।
साऽपीश्वरनियोगेन चोदिता सम्प्रवर्त्तते ॥ ६.३२॥
Meaning:
- Dispenser of tremendous learnings – Goddess Saraswati also gets influenced by
me.
याऽशेषपुरुषान् घोरान्नरकात् तारयिष्यति ।
सावित्री संस्मृता देवी देवाज्ञाऽनुविधायिनी ॥ ६.३३॥
Meaning:
- The goddess which lifts individual souls (purusha) from the sea of samsara also
functions as per my order.
पार्वती परमा देवी ब्रह्मविद्याप्रदायिनी ।
याऽपि ध्याता विशेषेण सापि मद्वचनानुगा ॥ ६.३४॥
Meaning:
-The Supreme goddess pArvati, conferer of Bramha-Vidhya to meditators,
especially following the words of mine.
योऽनन्तमहिमाऽनन्तः शेषोऽशेषामरप्रभुः ।
दधाति शिरसा लोकं सोऽपि देवनियोगतः ॥ ६.३५॥
Meaning:
- Sesa, the god of god, infinite, highly glorious, holds worlds on his head, is
existing because of my blessings alone.
योऽग्निः संवर्त्तको नित्यं वडवारूपसंस्थितः ।
पिबत्यखिलमम्भोधिमीश्वरस्य नियोगतः ॥ ६.३६॥
Meaning:
- Samvartaka – present in the form of submarine fire, drinks entire sea on
order of Ishvara.
ये चतुर्दश लोकेऽस्मिन् मनवः प्रथितौजसः ।
पालयन्ति प्रजाः सर्वास्तेऽपि तस्य नियोगतः ॥ ६.३७॥
Meaning:
- The glorious fourteen Manu(s), nurture the beings by my order only.
आदित्या वसवो रुद्रा मरुतश्च तथाऽश्विनौ ।
अन्याश्च देवताः सर्वा मच्छास्त्रेणैव निष्ठिताः ॥ ६.३८॥
Meaning:
- Twelve Aaditya(s), eight vasu(s), eleven rudra(s), maruts host, two Ashivini Kumara
and other deities’ functions on my order.
गन्धर्वा गरुडा ऋक्षाः सिद्धाः साध्याश्चचारणाः ।
यक्षरक्षः पिशाचाश्च स्थिताः सृष्टाः स्वयंभुवः ॥ ६.३९॥
Meaning: - The Supreme Lord (Shiva) created (manifested) as Gandharva,
Garuda, Siddha- Sadhya, chAranA, yaksha, demons, ghosts and other beings.
कलाकाष्ठानिमेषाश्च मुहूर्त्ता दिवसाः क्षपाः ।
ऋतवः पक्षमासाश्च स्थिताः शास्त्रे प्रजापतेः ॥ ६.४०॥
Meaning:
- kalA, kAshtAs, Nimesas, Muhrats, days, night, seasons, months are situated in
the governance of me (as Prajapati).
युगमन्वन्तराण्येव मम तिष्ठन्ति शासने ।
पराश्चैव परार्धाश्च कालभेदास्तथा परे ॥ ६.४१॥
Meaning: - Yugas, Mavantara, Parardha and other classification of time,
are situated in my governance alone.
चतुर्विधानि भूतानि स्थावराणि चराणि च ।
नियोगादेव वर्त्तन्ते देवस्य परमात्मनः ॥ ६.४२॥
Meaning:
- Four types of bhutas (which are स्वेदज, अण्डज, उद्भिज्ज, जरायुज) mobile and immobile, functions on the instruction of Parmatma.
पातालानि च सर्वाणि भुवनानि च शासनात् ।
ब्रह्माण्डानि च वर्त्तन्ते सर्वाण्येव स्वयंभुवः ॥ ६.४३॥
Meaning:
- Svarga, Patala (nether world), and all other worlds are governed by Ishvara.
अतीतान्यप्यसंख्यानि ब्रह्माण्डानि ममाज्ञया ।
प्रवृत्तानि पदार्थौघैः सहितानि समन्ततः ॥ ६.४४॥
ब्रह्माण्डानि भविष्यन्ति सह वस्तुभिरात्मगैः ।
वहिष्यन्ति सदैवाज्ञां परस्य परमात्मनः ॥ ६.४५॥
Meaning:
- Infinite Universe(s), in past followed instructions of mine. Infinite
Universe which shall be created in the future are going to follows my
instructions alone.
भूमिरापोऽनलो वायुः खं मनो बुद्धिरेव च ।
भूतादिरादिप्रकृतिर्नियोगे मम वर्त्तते ॥ ६.४६॥
Meaning:
- Elements of eternal Prakriti such as earth, water, wind, Sky, fire, mind and
intelligence functions on my blessings.
योऽशेषजगतां योनिर्मोहिनी सर्वदेहिनाम् ।
माया विवर्त्तते नित्यं सापीश्वरनियोगतः ॥ ६.४७॥
Meaning: - The yoni (Prakriti
or Premordial Nature also called origin point) of entire creation, bewildering
the creatures, that maya function due to the blessings of mine.
यो वै देहभृतां देवः पुरुषः पठ्यते परः ।
आत्माऽसौ वर्त्तते नित्यमीश्वरस्य नियोगतः ॥ ६.४८॥
Meaning: - The purusha in the
form of soul– who is called as Lord of all living beings functions due to my
blessings.
विधूय मोहकलिलं यया पश्यति तत् पदम् ।
साऽपि बुद्धिर्महेशस्य नियोगवशवर्त्तिनी ॥ ६.४९॥
Meaning:
- By the grace of that Vidhya, which enables one to visualise the ‘ultimate
position’ (of oneness of Jiva and Shiva) also functions as per wish of
Maheshwara.
बहुनाऽत्र किमुक्तेन मम शक्त्यात्मकं जगत् ॥
मयैव प्रेर्यते कृत्स्नं मय्येव प्रलयं व्रजेत् ॥ ६.५०॥
Meaning:
- What is the purpose to elaborate it in more details? Know that entire
creation is formulation of my potency. Know me to be the influencer of the
creation and entire creations merges in me (at the end).
अहं हि भगवानीशः स्वयं ज्योतिः सनातनः ।
परमात्मार परं ब्रह्म मत्तो ह्यन्यो न विद्यते ॥ ६.५१॥
Meaning:
- Know me to be the only Lord Isha, and I am Self-illlumining.
Know me to be sanatan (eternal). I am Parmatma and Param-Bramha, and there exist
nothing which is not identical to me.
इत्येतत् परमं ज्ञानं युष्माकं कथितं मया ।
ज्ञात्वा विमुच्यते जन्तुर्जन्मसंसारबन्धनात् ॥ ६.५२॥
Meaning: - The Knowledge which I narrated, by acquiring the same, one
gets liberated from cycle of birth-death.
इति श्रीकूर्मपुराणे षट्साहस्त्र्यां संहितायामुपरिविभागे (ईश्वरगीतासु) षष्ठोऽध्यायः ॥ ६॥
